A 41-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of the shooting death of a 27-year-old Lodi resident earlier this week.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched Monday at 10 p.m. to the 6000 block of East Pine Street in Lodi following calls about a shooting that occurred.

A man, identified as Jorge Cortes Bejar, of Lodi, was found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

Although life-saving measures were attempted, he died at the scene from his injuries.

Deputies said after a thorough investigation, they identified Gabriel Hernandez as their primary suspect in the shooting.

On Tuesday at 11:04 p.m., the Sheriff's Office received information that the Manteca Police Department had eyes on Hernandez's vehicle near West Louise Avenue and Airport Road in Manteca.

A stop was initiated on the suspect on Walnut Road, north of Yosemite Avenue.

Deputies said they identified the driver of the vehicle as the suspect wanted for the Lodi shooting.

Hernandez allegedly initially complied with deputies but then fled on foot.

He was later arrested and a firearm was located, according to deputies.
