D.C. Divas redefine football on and off the field

Meet the D.C. Divas, the three-time National Champions and 2025 National Conference Champions breaking barriers in football. This season, they're channeling their inner Chad Powers, the titular character of Hulu's newest football series starring Glen Powell.

The show follows Powell as a former star quarterback trying to make a comeback as a walk-on. The themes of persistence and second chances hit close to home for the Divas, as they are women of all ages and careers, working hard to shine in a male-dominated sport.

Wide receiver Lois Cook, who is also Vice President of the Divas, has played for more than two decades and said effort matters more than raw talent.

"Skills can be taught, but you can't teach heart," she said. "I get to be the bigger, stronger, better, faster version of myself every step of the way."

Head Coach "Coach Ghost," who started with the team in 2001, praised her players commitment and drive.

"These women are absolutely spectacular human beings," she said. "They give everything to their families, to their children, to me, and to the future of football."

"We cannot be denied. Now is the time to watch women's sports. And if you're able to, come out and play; promise that you'll fall in love!"

"This is not just men's football, not just women's football, this is football," added quarterback Amanda Congialdi.

New episodes of Chad Powers stream Tuesdays on Hulu and with Hulu on Disney+.

Disney is the parent company of ABC Localish and this station.

Four Ingredients Turn Cornmeal Into Crispy Southern Comfort

Southern hoecakes demonstrate how a few humble ingredients can create something far more memorable than their simplicity suggests. Cornmeal, liquid, egg, and hot fat come together into small cakes with crisp, golden edges and tender centers. The flavor is straightforward and deeply comforting, especially when bacon grease adds its smoky character to the pan. They resemble pancakes in shape but carry the rustic texture and savory corn flavor of skillet cornbread. Each cake develops plenty of browned surface, making those edges the part everyone searches for first. This is old-fashioned cooking built around necessity, thrift, and ingredients that were easy to keep on hand. The result remains valuable today because warm, crisp corn cakes still know how to make a bowl of beans or a plate of vegetables feel like a complete meal.

Two Ingredients Might Be All You Need When the Pizza Craving Hits

Two Ingredients Might Be All You Need When the Pizza Craving Hits. Sometimes you want pizza flavor without ordering a whole pie, making dough, or turning snack time into a kitchen project. These two-ingredient pepperoni pizza bites strip things down to the part everybody reaches for first anyway: savory pepperoni and hot, melty cheese. As they cook, the edges turn crisp while the cheese bubbles and browns, creating little bite-sized pieces with plenty of salty, cheesy payoff. There’s no traditional crust involved, which also makes them a handy low-carb option when everyone else is having pizza and you still want something that belongs on the same table. Two ingredients sounds almost too simple to call a recipe, but when those ingredients are pepperoni and cheese, nobody is likely to complain.

Five Minutes Is Apparently All This Fudge Needs

Homemade fudge sounds like the kind of candy that requires thermometers, precise timing, and a family secret guarded for several generations. This five-minute version refuses to cooperate with that reputation. It delivers rich chocolate flavor, a smooth texture, and the satisfying density of traditional fudge without turning the kitchen into a confectionery laboratory. The mixture comes together quickly on the stove, leaving the chilling time to handle most of the actual work. Once set, it cuts into neat little squares that look perfectly at home in a holiday candy tin or piled on a dessert tray. The chocolate is deep enough to satisfy a serious craving, while the small portions keep the richness manageable—at least until someone reaches for another piece. It is the kind of recipe that makes you wonder why fudge ever felt intimidating in the first place.
