Celine McGee loves to walk around the city and most frequently takes strolls through Rittenhouse square delivering compliments.

She calls herself The Compliment Squad.

The sentiment has no strings attached, she just wants to spread kindness and encourage others to do so as well.

The idea first came to light once McGee's father passed away.

Her family held a yard sale and put up signs around her neighborhood encouraging people to stop by for a free compliment.

Multiple community members took her up on the offer and she quickly realized the power and connections a simple compliment could spawn.

After moving to Philadelphia, Celine decided to print out cards and continue the practice with random members of the public and she's been doing it ever since.

Once she provides a compliment to someone, she will hand them a card and encourage them to spread the kindness.

She says it is a simple act that can warm the hearts of other while also giving her joy in the process.

These Ritz Cracker Sandwiches Vanish Before the Party Starts

Ritz Party Sandwiches transform familiar buttery crackers into warm, savory appetizers that are exactly the right size for grabbing from a crowded table. Cheese and flavorful sandwich fillings sit between pairs of crackers, creating miniature bites with a crisp exterior and rich center. As they bake, the cheese melts, the filling warms, and the crackers become even more aromatic without losing the delicate texture that makes Ritz crackers so recognizable. Each small sandwich delivers salt, butter, cheese, and savory flavor in one or two bites, which explains why people rarely stop after taking only one. The recipe does not require elaborate pastry, specialty bread, or hours of preparation, yet the completed tray looks more thoughtful than simply opening a box of crackers. It is party food built around convenience without tasting like the cook took an obvious shortcut.

This Strawberry Dessert Was Made to Steal the Whole Table

Some desserts sit politely in the corner, but a Southern strawberry punch bowl cake is designed to command the center of the table. Layers of tender cake, juicy strawberries, and cool creamy filling build against the sides of a clear bowl, showing off every color and texture before anyone takes the first serving. The berries bring freshness, the cream makes each spoonful soft and luxurious, and the cake absorbs enough of the surrounding flavor to become even better as it chills. Instead of precise slices, this dessert offers generous scoops where the layers mingle together, making every bowlful slightly different. It feels festive without becoming formal and nostalgic without looking dated. Once the serving spoon reaches the bottom and lifts all those layers at once, people understand why punch bowl cakes have remained such beloved gathering desserts.

Grandma’s Potato Soup Never Needed Twenty Ingredients

Modern potato soup recipes often arrive loaded with cheese, bacon, cream cheese, toppings, and a shopping list long enough to make a simple supper feel expensive. Grandma’s five-ingredient version takes the opposite approach. Potatoes provide the body, a few basic ingredients build the broth, and gentle cooking turns everything into a warm, comforting bowl without unnecessary additions. The simplicity allows the potato flavor to remain clear while creating the kind of creamy texture people expect from old-fashioned soup. It is especially useful when the refrigerator looks bare, the pantry is uncooperative, and dinner still needs to happen. A short ingredient list also means fewer measurements, less preparation, and an affordable pot large enough to serve several people. This soup does not attempt to compete with restaurant menus. It offers something more dependable: familiar warmth made from ingredients ordinary kitchens are likely to have.

Mama’s Goulash Tastes Like the Dinner Everyone Remembers

Mama’s Goulash combines elbow macaroni, seasoned ground beef, tomatoes, onions, bell pepper, and cheese into a saucy one-pan dinner that feels immediately familiar. The macaroni cooks until tender and catches the tomato-rich sauce inside every curve, while the beef makes the meal hearty enough to satisfy a crowded table. Onion and pepper soften into the background, contributing sweetness and savory flavor without distracting from the combination people expect. Cheese melts through the pasta and gives the sauce a comforting richness that plain beef and tomatoes cannot provide. This is American family-style goulash rather than a formal European stew, and its appeal comes from affordability, generosity, and the ability to turn basic pantry ingredients into a pot that smells like somebody’s childhood kitchen.

This Macaroni Salad Knows Something the Others Don’t

Hawaiian Macaroni Salad does not try to impress with complicated ingredients or a long list of unusual additions. Its appeal comes from exceptionally tender macaroni, a rich and creamy dressing, and just enough carrot, celery, and onion to interrupt the softness with a little freshness and crunch. The pasta is intentionally cooked beyond the firm texture many Italian dishes require, allowing it to absorb the dressing and develop the comforting consistency associated with a classic Hawaiian plate lunch. That distinction matters: this is not merely mayonnaise stirred into cold noodles. It is a carefully balanced side where the dressing clings to every curve, the vegetables remain understated, and the finished bowl tastes cool, mellow, and satisfying beside boldly seasoned meats.
