3 UPS pilots among 13 killed in Louisville cargo plane crash, company mourns loss

UPS has confirmed that three of its pilots: Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Captain Dana Diamond, were among the 13 people killed in the cargo plane crash near Louisville International Airport.

The MD-11 freighter, operating as UPS Flight 2976, lost an engine shortly after take-off before crashing into an industrial area near the company’s Worldport hub. Investigators from the NTSB and FAA are examining maintenance logs and flight data as part of their probe into what caused the fatal malfunction.

Nando Cesarone, UPS Executive Vice President, U.S. & UPS Airlines said, "We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of our colleagues, and to the loved ones of those in the Louisville community."
