Warriors top Lions, remain unbeaten
EASTON — He had just watched his team go over the 40-point mark for the fifth time this season to remain undefeated. Jamier Copper carried 18 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Ja’Zir Dickerson returned a punt for a touchdown. Chad Stanley returned a kickoff for another score. Brady Walls tossed a pair of touchdown passes. And the defense carried a shutout into the third quarter Friday night, as Easton High’s football team pieced together a 48-16 victory over Queen Anne’s County at Warrior Stadium. But Easton head coach Matt Griffith wasn’t exactly the happiest of campers afterwards. “This is the worst I’ve ever felt winning 48-16,” Griffith said. “You win 48-16 you should feel really good about it. I know who we are. I know what we can do.” While the Warriors (6-0) were never in jeopardy of suffering their first loss of the season — building a 32-0 lead in the third quarter against the young Lions (1-5) — Griffith was hoping for execution that was sharper and more consistent, especially with a date at unbeaten Stephen Decatur (6-0) looming Thursday night in Berlin. “We did not early,” Griffith said of his team’s offensive execution. “We did

University System of Maryland names building for Hoyer
The University System of Maryland will name the largest building at the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland, or USMSM, in St. Mary’s County for retiring U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer, honoring his decades of public service in the region and to public universities in the state. The SMART Building at the campus in California will be known as the Steny H. Hoyer University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland SMART Building. The 84,000-square-foot facility nearly doubled the educational footprint of USMSM when it opened in 2021 and houses both academic and research spaces. SMART is an acronym for Southern Maryland Autonomous Research and Technology. “Congressman Hoyer was a driving force behind the SMART Building,” Jay A. Perman, University System of Maryland chancellor, said in a release. “His advocacy attracted tens of millions of dollars to the region and placed a national asset — in robotics, AI and autonomous systems — in St. Mary’s County. It’s just one example of the attention and investment Steny Hoyer brought home to Southern Maryland over his decades at the highest levels of U.S. leadership and just one example of how he’s strengthened this community he cares for so deeply.” Hoyer earned his bachelor’s

Salisbury University returns Commencement to Civic Center
Salisbury University will return its Commencement ceremonies to the Wicomico Civic Center after a two-ceremony absence, giving graduates and their guests access to a renovated venue with expanded amenities and accessibility upgrades. The ceremonies are scheduled for May 19, 2027 and May 20, 2027, according to a community announcement. Graduate students will receive degrees during a ceremony in the Civic Center's Normandy Arena on May 19, while undergraduate students will participate in two ceremonies on May 20. The university held Commencement on campus during the previous two years as part of its Centennial celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the institution's opening. Since the 1970s, nearly all Salisbury University Commencement ceremonies have taken place at the Civic Center. The exceptions were in 1978 and 1979, when exercises were moved to other locations during reconstruction of the facility after a June 1977 fire destroyed the original Civic Center. Renovated venue to welcome graduates The return comes after an 18-month renovation project costing more than $10 million. Upgrades at the Wicomico Civic Center include a new box office, an expanded lobby, improved Americans with Disabilities Act access and additional safety enhancements, according to the announcement. University officials said in the announcement that
