Some major roadways remained impassable Nov. 4 after historic rainfall and flooding across the Treasure Coast, according to law enforcement officials. In Martin County, Northeast Jensen Beach Boulevard remained closed from Northeast Pinecrest Lakes Boulevard to Northeast Savannah Road. It’s located near Savannas Preserve State Park. In St. Lucie County, South 25th Street remained closed from just south of Edwards Road to Fort Pierce Central High School, including part of Bell Avenue . Preliminary observations from the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center, covering 4 a.m. EST Sunday, November 1 to 10 a.m. EST Tuesday, November 3, show a top total of 24.10 inches near Malabar in southern Brevard County. Five locations reported more than 20 inches, including Grant-Valkaria, West Palm Beach, Palm Bay and Palm Beach. The rain caused catastrophic flooding, led to two deaths in Brevard County, and forced more than 160 rescues.

PALM BAY, FLORIDA — Florida has just come through a very stormy 24 hours, with pockets of extreme rainfall across the central and southern peninsula. About 20 inches of rain fell south of Melbourne, in the Palm Bay area. A map of 24-hour average recurrence intervals shows three separate areas where the rain reached the level of a 200-year event, meaning rainfall that extreme has only about a 0.5 percent chance or less of happening in any given year. Those areas are Palm Bay, the Sebring area in Highlands County, and a stretch from Vero Beach south to Port St. Lucie.
