"Tap into Soul" opens Mission Valley Live concert season
Mission Valley Live takes a rhythm-infused leap into the performing arts season Oct. 30 with Solomon Jaye's show, “Tap into Soul.” His show, at 7 p.m. at the Ronan Performing Arts Center, is the first installment in what executive director Trish Rodrique describes as “an incredible, exciting lineup of artists for our 2026-27 season.” The tap-dancing soul singer, backed by a three-piece band, blends multi-octave vocals and world-class tap dancing in a setlist featuring both classic and contemporary chart-topping hits. The second show of the eight-concert series welcomes the holiday season Dec. 11 with Buzz Brass at the Polson High School Auditorium. Young organist making beautiful music at churches
At age 7 Leif Homme taught himself to play the baby grand piano. At age 9, he taught himself to read music and started playing the organ. “I was able to read music and have had no trouble since then,” he said in a recent interview. By age 15 he was playing the organ for Immaculate Conception in Kalispell, a small Catholic church. He went on to play organ at other churches as well, including St. Richard Catholic Church in Columbia Falls and St. Charles Borromeo in Whitefish. Today, at 25, he his now the music director at both churches. His Saturdays and Sundays are busy, to say the least. Homme loves it. He loves music. His faith, he said, has great influence on his work and his work reflects his faith, full of youth and energy and spirit. “I try to select music that will help lift the minds and hearts of congregation to God at Mass,” he said. Homme also enjoys traveling to other churches and has played the organ at the Cathedral of St. Helena in Helena, the Cathedral of St. Johns in Spokane and even the vaunted Salzburg Cathedral in Austria. “It was fantastic,” he said.

Bluegrass bands to play in Whitefish this weekend
North Fork Crossing and Silas Herman & The Tone Unit are coming together for a two-night engagement Oct. 23 and 24 at The Second Story in downtown Whitefish. They’ll bring an evening of bluegrass, jamgrass, Americana, psychedelic folk, and old-time string music to an intimate indoor room. North Fork Crossing is a new-age bluegrass band living somewhere between the traditional world of timeless fiddle tunes and ballads and the wide-open possibilities of the jamgrass community. Based in Montana's Gallatin Valley, the quintet of Cade Slayden, Ryan Kelly, Rabi Phelan, Silas Rea and Matt Hickey, is part of a new generation pushing string band music forward without losing sight of its roots. Their recently released sophomore album, "Portland Rose," showcases that evolution with 12 new studio tracks blending traditional bluegrass, old-time music, jamgrass, heartfelt ballads and hard-driving banjo. Joining them is Silas Herman & The Tone Unit, led by the Colorado-born multi-instrumentalist whose music draws from new acoustic, folk, bluegrass, psychedelic and Americana traditions. From intimate acoustic performances to high-energy improvisational sets, Herman has built a reputation for virtuosic playing and deeply soulful performances. Tickets are $35 and are available at buzzhive.info/e/north-fork-crossing-silas-herman-the-tone-unit-2026-10-23.
