Seniors see local job opportunities at Career Expo
Each week, Marion Technical College shares MarionMade! stories of our many wonderful people, places, products and programs in the greater Marion community. To read more positive stories of Marion, or to share some of your own, visit us at marionmade.org or on social media. More than 400 local high school seniors met with dozens of area employers at the Marion County Fairgrounds on Oct. 20 to showcase job openings and career paths. “I’ve had a student get a job from this almost every year,” said Mark Robinson, engineering instructor at Tri-Rivers Career Center. “It exposes our students to a lot of opportunities.” The event highlights 28 local manufacturers, businesses, public service, military careers, nonprofits and health care agencies. Marion Technical College, Ohio State University at Marion and Tri-Rivers Career Center adult education also offer opportunities. The Lumina Foundation noted two out of three jobs require some form of credential, certificate or degree. Shana Riedlinger, the college and career readiness advisor at Harding, said, “I love that there’s a wide variety of employers. We’ve got manufacturing, public safety, banks and health care. Some students have never heard of half of these places, so they can discover new places within their town.”

Brady Bowman climbs OHSAA all-time list as Shelby football goes 10-0 again
SHELBY — It was a history-making kind of night at the Whippet Athletic Complex. Shelby football senior Brady Bowman caught seven passes for 151 yards and one touchdown to move into eighth place on the Ohio High School Athletic Association's all-time career receiving yards list. He also surpassed 4,000 career yards and now sits at 4,114 and counting, while Shelby’s team dominance turned into a 42-7 victory over Marion Harding in Week 10. HOW'D WE DO? WEEK 10 PICKS All tied up with one week of high school football left “It is an unreal feeling to be on the list of all-time great receivers. It’s more than just what people see out here, it's putting in the work when no one is else is,” said Bowman. Shelby completed its third straight 10-0 regular season. “It hasn’t set in yet, and I bet a lot of kids would want to have this moment. I'm truly grateful,” said Bowman. Shelby coach Rob Mahaney knows the significance of tonight’s accolades. “These seniors are going to graduate going 30-0 in the regular season. That’s pretty special. The amount of high school football players that can say that has to be really small,” Mahaney said.
