    Identity released in fatal Ambassador Caffery crash

    UPDATE: Police have released the identity of the person killed in a Thursday night crash in Lafayette.

    Ronnie Lee Trahan, 34, of Maurice, was killed in a major motor vehicle crash involving a truck and a motorcycle.

    The Lafayette Police Department responded to the 4000 block of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy. regarding the crash. Preliminary on-scene investigation revealed that the truck was traveling North in the 4000 block of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy. in the left turn lane. Investigators say the motorcycle was traveling South in the 3900 block of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy. in the outside lane. The truck turned left to travel West on Dover Blvd., crossing the motorbike's lane of travel, at which time the motorcycle struck the truck on the passenger side rear. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner.

    The driver of the truck was brought to the ATAC command bus and submitted a voluntary breath sample of 0.000g%BAC.

    This crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department Traffic Division.

    Lafayette Police are working on a major traffic accident in the 4000 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

    Officials tell us that the accident involved two vehicles with injuries.

    Motorists should avoid the area as traffic in both directions is being redirected.
