LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — The Interim Director of the Lafayette Public Library, Sarah Monroe, has resigned. According to Monroe, both staff and the board of control have been notified.

The co-founder of Lafayette Citizens Against Censorship Lynette Mejia keeps her ear to the wire when it comes to the library and the decisions made at the top, and is sad to see another librarian go.

“It’s just sad to watch this happen to our public library,” Mejia said.

The previous Lafayette Library Director was terminated, and the retirement of the director before came as public shock.

“It’s every month there’s another change and there’s another librarian leaving. We lost a couple of other good librarians this month as well,” Mejia explained.

Monroe sent a statement to her staff on Monday, informing them on her resignation.

“I am writing to let all of you know that my last day with Lafayette Public Library will be Friday, April 26. I have loved working for LPL these past eleven years, and while not all aspects of the job have been pleasant, I can say I’ve enjoyed getting to serve as your Assistant, and now interim, Director. Hands down, the staff have been the best part of this job,” Monroe said. “For anyone curious, I’m not going far. I’ve accepted a job at UL, so you’ll still see me around, just as a patron. I will be submitting my official letter of resignation to the Board today, and tonight will be my last board meeting. You’ll hear more from me over the next two weeks about plans moving forward, but I need time to work on that with Larry and the managers. But I know I’ve leaving you all in good hands.”
