Man dies after Tesla found crashed 300 feet down hillside off Highway 50 near Pollock Pines
POLLOCK PINES -- A man died after he was ejected from his vehicle in a crash off Highway 50 in the area of Pollock Pines on Tuesday. The El Dorado County Fire Protection District responded to Highway 50 and Outer Limits Road sometime after 11 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a crash. Firefighters said the report came from the driver's wife receiving a notification that the car, a Tesla, was in a crash. The first crews on scene struggled to locate the crash site provided by the Tesla but eventually located the vehicle about 300 feet down a hillside north of Highway 50. The driver, a man in his 40s, was found ejected from the Tesla. Firefighters said he suffered massive blunt-force trauma and died on the scene. Crews said there were two child booster seats in the vehicle, but the man's wife confirmed the kids were safe at home. The man's identification has not been released.

Small El Dorado County community pushes back against proposed facilities
RESCUE — A nonprofit developer wants to build two facilities to help Native American Women with disabilities and youth who are pregnant in rural El Dorado County. Residents in the community of Rescue have expressed multiple concerns since learning about the project last year. "What we're really concerned about is the patient experience. This location is not a good location for this type of facility," Chris Silva, Rescue resident, said. Highway 50 lane reopened near Pollock Pines following crash
FRESH POND, Calif. — The #2 westbound lane on Highway 50 has been reopened at Fresh Pond east of Pollock Pines in El Dorado County, Caltrans District 3 said. The lane was closed following a Tuesday morning car crash. A single vehicle somehow crashed into the embankment on the side of the road, California Highway Patrol logs show.

In his final forecast post for the 2023-2024 season, OpenSnow Forecaster Bryan Allegretto said that the biggest 24-hour snowfall of this season for Palisades was 31 inches on March 3. Last weekend’s storm was the second-largest 24-hour snowfall bringing 26 inches to the mountain.
Forest Service announces spring facility opening dates at Lake Tahoe
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has begun the process of opening National Forest recreational facilities in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Before recreation sites can be fully opened to the public, the Forest Service must complete seasonal hiring of crews and staff to manage sites, clean up from winter, remove safety hazards such as damaged trees and wait for the danger of a freeze to pass before turning on water systems for restrooms. All opening dates are subject to change, due to conditions and weather.
