KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Tennessee men’s golf team was named the No. 1 overall seed in the Austin Regional. It is the first time in program history that Tennessee has earned a No. 1 seed since the NCAA switched its postseason to a six-regional format in 2010.

This comes just a year after star C aleb Surratt left the program to join the LIV Golf Tour.

The Vols have won a program-record-tying three-team tournament titles. Tennessee has recorded 20 top-10 individual finishes.

“I really felt like there was a lot here that these guys hadn’t accomplished individually maybe because of Caleb and the shadow that he cast you know being so good,” said Vol golf head coach Brennan Webb. “I knew this wasn’t really going to hurt us being able to prove to all those people that wrote us off that we are elite and we are capable of going and doing anything that we hoped to accomplish at the start of the year, just always nice to be able to prove people wrong. Getting kind of that curve ball thrown at them, for them to come out the other side stronger than ever just makes me proud of everything they’ve done.”

The tournament Austin Regional starts on May 13 and will go on until May 15. The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA National Championships.
