Low overnight temperatures to usher in Freeze Warning

Low temperatures are going to settle over most of the state tonight, prompting warnings and watches. The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning from midnight tonight to 8:00 tomorrow morning for Boone, Audrain, Moniteau, Cole, Osage, Callaway, Montgomery, Gasconade, Franklin, and Crawford Counties. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as the upper 20s are expected. Residents are encouraged to protect tender plants from the cold.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - For the second day in a row, weather conditions have delayed work on the Interstate 70 Polk-Quincy Viaduct project on the north edge of downtown Topeka. As a result of weather conditions, the temporary closure on S. Storm front Monday could bring Kansas November tornadoes

The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance for severe weather, including potential tornadoes, during the late afternoon and early evening Nov. 2 in parts of Kansas that include Topeka, Hutchinson and Salina. The risk will be highest in central, northeast and far eastern Kansas, the weather service's Topeka office said in a graphic posted early Nov. 2 on its website. Shawnee County last saw a tornado in November in 1988, said Jennifer Prieto, a meteorologist for the weather service office in Topeka. ‘A few tornadoes will be possible’ Meteorologists feel confident that storms will develop Nov. 2 in central and eastern Kansas as a strong system approaches, with a few initial rounds of rain occurring in the morning and early afternoon, the weather service said. "Severe storms could then develop ahead of a front later this afternoon," it said. "Damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall and a few tornadoes will be possible.
