    Sports briefs: CHMS physicals set for May 10

    CHURCH HILL— Rural Health will offer sports physicals at Church Hill Middle School on Friday, May 10. School-level physicals are optional; athletes can opt to complete physicals with their own doctors. However, the physicals must take place after April 15 to meet TMSAA guidelines for the 2024-25 school year.

    SMS Booster Club plans bounce day

    SURGOINSVILLE — The SMS Booster Club will host a bounce day at Riverfront Park in Surgoinsville on Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per child to bounce all day. Concessions will be available.

    Renegades announce open practices, tryouts

    The Renegades will be holding open practices from now through June 1 for anyone interested in trying out for the 10U and 12U softball teams. Tryouts will be June 1 from noon to 3 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes early to fill out registration forms. The team practices 1-2 days a week and plays locally two weekends a month. The teams are looking for birth years of Sept. 1, 2013-Sept. 1, 2014, for the 10U team and birth years of Sept. 1, 2011-Sept. 1, 2013, for 12U. Strong 2015 players will be considered.     CHMS to host Blue & Gold Game

    CHURCH HILL— The Church Hill Middle School Blue & Gold Game will be held Wednesday, May 15, at 1 p.m. at the school's stadium.

    Kingsport Chamber hosting golf scramble

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Chamber 32nd Annual Golf Scramble will be held Monday, May 13, and Tuesday, May 14, at Ridgefields. Due to the event’s popularity, teams will have a choice between four flights across two days. Two flights will be available on each day with tee times at 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

    The tournament is sponsored by Food City, Pepsi, Powell Valley National Bank and Hunter Smith Davis. Texas Roadhouse is the lunch sponsor, and breakfast will be provided by Food City. The media sponsor is the Kingsport Times News. The hole-in-one sponsor is Edwards Tipton Witt Insurance.

    Awards will be given to the top three places in four flights in both the morning and afternoon rounds on each day. Hole competitions include prizes for longest drive on two holes, most accurate drive on two holes and closest to the pin on each of the four par threes.

    Hole sponsorships are available for $275 and individual player entry fees are $175 per player or $700 for a team of four. A chairman’s discount package is offered for $875 and includes a team of four and hole sponsorship.

    Volunteer physicals will be May 17

    CHURCH HILL— Rural Health will offer sports physicals at Volunteer High School on Friday, May 17, starting at 9 a.m. in the little gym. Any athlete wanting to play sports at Volunteer must have a physical dated after April 15, 2024, to participate during the 2024-2025 school year. Packets are available from trainer Chase Johnson or in the front office. There will be a packet handout and informational meeting on May 14.     Bulls Gap 3 on 3 tournament set for May 18

    BULLS GAP — The Bulls Gap Alumni 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be held May 18, starting at 4 p.m., at Bulls Gap School. The roster must be made up of players who attended Bulls Gap. Rosters should include three or four players, ages high school through adults. The cost is $75 per team. Contact Coach Chris Hughes at 423-754-5317 to reserve a spot.

    Bulls Gap announces Skills & Drills camp

    BULLS GAP — The Bulldogs' Basketball Skills & Drills Camp will be held May 19, at Bulls Gap School. The first session, for grades K-5, will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. The second session, for grades 6-9, will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Grade is based on next school level. Parents will need to check in at the front, sign a waiver and pay on the day of training. The cost is $20. Contact Coach Chris Hughes at 423-754-5317 to reserve a spot.

    Kingsport Aquatic Center passes now available

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Aquatic Center has season passes available for purchase. The passes entitle visitors to use the indoor pools and outdoor water park during the summer season. The outdoor water park will open the weekend of May 18-19 and then be open daily from May 25 through Aug. 2. From Aug. 3 through Sept. 1, the outdoor water park will be open on the weekends with the last day of operation being Sept. 2.

    Season pass holders and Kingsport Aquatic Center members get early access to the outdoor water park 30 minutes before the regular opening time (except on Sundays). Season pass prices are $100 for the Lil’ Splasher (under 48”), $125 for the Bigger Splasher (48” and taller), and $100 for the Master Splasher (ages 55 and older). A Splash Pack (good for a four-person household) is $250 (with $15 added for each additional person within the same household).

    Outdoor water park hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m., Sunday.

    CHMS volleyball tryouts set for May 24

    CHURCH HILL — Varsity and junior varsity volleyball tryouts for rising sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade girls at Church Hill Intermediate and Middle schools will be held May 24 from 2-4 p.m. in the CHMS gym. To learn more, email Coach Emma Bice at emma.bice@hck12.net.

    Beginning May 7, there'll be open gym every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-5 p.m. and conditioning every Wednesday from 3:15-4 p.m. These are not mandatory, but girls are encouraged to attend.

    CHMS soccer tryouts set for May 28-30

    CHURCH HILL — Girls soccer tryouts for the Church Hill Middle School team, which includes players from Surgoinsville Middle School, will be held May 28-30 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. each day at the CHMS football field.

    The tryouts are open the upcoming sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade girls from both CHMS and SMS.

    Athletes must have an updated physical on file to participate. Paperwork will be reviewed on May 28. Must have cleats, shin guards and a bottle of water for physical tryouts on May 29-30.

    Tusculum basketball announces JT Burton Youth Camp

    GREENEVILLE — The Tusculum University men’s basketball team will host the 2024 JT Burton Youth Camp, June 3-6, at Pioneer Arena on the Greeneville campus. The JT Burton Youth camp is open for boys and girls, grades K-6 and will run daily from 9 a.m. — 4 p.m.

    Campers will receive individual instruction from Tusculum coaches and student-athletes. Activities include organized games and contests designed to teach and improve playing fundamentals. Campers will receive a camp T-shirt, prizes and an awards ceremony at the end of the camp.
