Sandoval man ordered held without bond on arson charge

A 22-year-old Sandoval man was ordered held without bond after appearing in Marion County Court for the first time on Wednesday for arson. Joey Evans of South Main is accused of throwing a lighted gasoline can at a parked pickup truck in a parking lot in the 900 block of South Locust. The blaze burned the engine compartment before the Centralia Fire Department put it out.

Centralia Police make arrest in connection with shots fired into home in June

Centralia Police have made an arrest in connection with shots fired into a home on the 1200 block of McKee Street in June. 18-year-old Sincer Rogers of McKee Street in Centralia was arrested Thursday night when police were investigating a loud music complaint on Devonia Drive. He’s been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, armed violence and reckless conduct in connection with the original shooting incident. He’s also been arrested for resisting arrest in an October 31st traffic stop where he was a passenger who successfully ran from the vehicle. Rogers was also arrested for obstructing justice for allegedly giving police a false name while they were investigating the loud music complaint.

Four people were injured in a crash on U.S. 50 and the Iuka Road Thursday afternoon. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say an SUV driven by 72-year-old Deborah Ruholl of Eighth Street in Flora was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 when she made a left turn in front of an oncoming eastbound SUV driven by 48-year-old Michael Wasion of North Avenue in Flora. After impact, the Wasion vehicle overturned on its side.

Orphans & Johnston City Are 11-0….Flyers Rout Visiting St Patrick

The Centralia Orphans are 11-0 and in the IHSA quarterfinals as they advanced past visiting Mt Zion 34-14. Kenny Bratton had TD receptions of 78 and 93 yards from Archie Goewey, who also had a 45 yard TD pass to Jace Barmmeier. Ja’Shawn Staples and Will Stanton had rushing TD’s. Staples has 33 touchdowns on the season. One downside for the Orphans, Staples had to be helped to the locker room towards the end of the game and will will have to see his status heading into next week’s Elite 8 contest. The Orphans could play their 3rd straight home game to open the playoffs if Sacred Heart Griffin beats Metamora today. If the Cardinals win, the Orphans would travel north next Saturday. The game ball was delivered prior to the game by the Air Evac Helicopter.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 21-year-old Trevor Bryan of East Boone in Salem for aggravated domestic battery following an incident at a Kell home. Oisín Dilger is appointed carillonneur for the Centralia Bell Tower, Centralia, Illinois. Originally from Galway, Ireland, he earned a music degree from University College Cork during which time he began studying carillon with Adrian Gebruers. He received the Quercus Scholarship of Performing Arts in 2023 and the following year the Staf Gebruers Memorial Award. Dilger has studied at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen, Belgium, and has performed across Belgium, the Netherlands, and in the United States. Highland City Council approves estimated 3.92% tax levy increase

Reporter • Highland City Council approved an estimated 3.92% increase in its property tax levy during its Oct. 19 meeting. The proposed increase would generate roughly $202,000 in additional property tax revenue for the city compared with the previous year. The amount would rise from $5,161,357 last year to $5,363,762. The city’s property tax rate is expected to decline by 1.04%.
