Authorities have identified both men involved in a fatal accident between a car and a bicycle last week, according to a post on the Henry County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page.

A preliminary investigation reveals that on Friday, May 3, a 2005 Dodge Magnum, driven by Darren Chamberlain, 20 of Kewanee, was driving south on US Highway 34, south of Kewanee. As the Magnum traveled south, it struck a bicyclist who was also traveling south on US Highway 34. Chamberlain and a passenger of the vehicle declined medical attention at the scene.

The bicyclist, identified in the post as Tyler L. Bliss, 31 of Kewanee, was critically injured in the incident. Henry County Deputies arrived on scene and immediately began life saving measures. Bliss was taken to OSF-Saint Luke’s Hospital located in Kewanee where he was later pronounced dead.

Chamberlain received a citation for unlawful overtaking of a bicycle (625 ILCS 5/11-703). The crash remains under investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and no additional information will be released at this time, according to Chief Deputy Ben Franklin in the post.
