Years in the making: Putnam Landing improvements moving forward | Exclusive
ZANESVILLE – After years of planning and navigating federal approvals, the project to transform Putnam Landing Park and improve public access to the Muskingum River will soon go out to bid. The Putnam Landing Park improvement project has been on the city's radar since 2022. The goal is to rebuild and modernize the boat ramp, add a courtesy dock, regrade the park and improve vertical access, improve pedestrian accessibility with sidewalks, and fix and add different landscaping to help flood-proof the park. The project has faced a more complicated federal approval process than most city projects. As of Oct. 21, it is awaiting final permitting from the Army Corps of Engineers, Zanesville Community Development Director Matt Schley said. More: Marching in their honor. Veterans Day Parade returns to downtown Zanesville "My understanding is it's been wrapped up. It's now in the permit issuance phase," Schley continued. High Points of the Valley
* The Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated with yet another successful annual dinner last week -- this time with the theme being "Survivor." As attendees made connections, learned from panelists ... perhaps got ejected from their islands ... and more, it was clear the chamber board and Executive Director Karen Waller understood how to make the event just another way in which the chamber fulfills its mission. "It's designed to share ideas, to get together socially, give us a chance to make some awards and review the year," Waller said. But, "We try to make it fun. We try to make a combination of fun and some business content." The event WAS fun -- even if the News and Sentinel's table maintains it was cheated in the puzzle race -- as well as educational and a wonderful opportunity to trade ideas. Congratulations to everyone involved on putting together yet another fantastic event.
