Fee proposed for vacant commercial properties in Williamson
An ordinance to charge fees for vacant downtown, first-floor, commercial properties was discussed in a recent Williamson City Council meeting on Feb. 22. The proposed ordinance would require commercial property owners in the downtown business district of Williamson to pay a fee to the city for their empty/vacant spaces, which would be limited to the first floor only.
Beech Fork Wildlife Management Area
The 7,531-acre Beech Fork Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is forested chiefly in oak, pine, and hickory. Its terrain varies for steep, wooded ridges to bottom land along the margins of Beech Fork and its tributaries. Principal game harvested in the management area include deer, fox, grouse, squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, turkey, woodcock, mourning dove, and various waterfowl. Beech Fork Lake (720 acres) and Millers Fork Pond (1.5 acres) afford fishing for trout, bluegill, crappie, saugeye, tiger musky, and bass (catch-and-release). The lake is equipped with two boat ramps. The pond is restricted to children under 10 and Class-Q permit holders. A 100-yard shooting range has been established in the management area. Camping is accommodated at adjacent Beech Fork State Park.
