CROSS RIVER, N.Y. - Voters in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District overwhelmingly approved a $124 million budget for next year and elected three school members in balloting Tuesday (May 21).

Marjorie Schiff, a veteran of 12 years on the school board and its president for eight, was easily re-elected to a fifth term with 1,115 votes. But the top vote-getter among  five trustee hopefuls was Barbara Williams, vice president of the Meadow Pond PTO, with 1,149. Both were elected to three-year terms.

Jon Poffenberger, drawing 815 votes to finish third in the three-seat race, will serve the final year of a board vacancy. Poffenberger’s term begins immediately, replacing William Rifkin. After three terms on the board, Rifkin agreed last year to serve one more year to filling a sudden vacancy.

The budget sailed to easy passage, 1,179 to 517. Voters also approved three propositions dealing with the school vehicle fleet and the Katonah Elementary School’s new geothermal heating and cooling system.
