Margaret Mosley, a resident deeply impacted by the storm, shared her sentiments: "I guess I never completely got out of the other one. Every time we have a storm, I remember. But it's okay. We're here and we're alive." Mosley's words echo the tension felt by many Joplin residents when severe weather strikes.

She further explained the anxiety of being without power during the storm: "We got nervous and everything, and then we finally decided there wasn't anything we could do because we had no electricity and I had had a spell with my heart. Couldn't get 911, or it rang and no one answered."

For Mosley and others affected, the storm's impact extends beyond the physical . Families spent the morning clearing debris with their children and relatives, forming a united front against the destruction left in its wake.

Evelyn Steele, another Joplin resident, recounted her experience: "I noticed we had water all over in the kitchen, and water was coming down through the ceiling, through the walls. And then I looked out and saw that we had windows broken, and we had this two by four that went through our kitchen." Steele, like many in the community, faced the daunting task of rebuilding amidst the chaos.

The storm's effects were widespread, with over 7,200 locations in Joplin losing power at the peak of the storm. Despite the challenges, city officials assured residents that help is on the way. "We encourage all citizens in Joplin, especially those in affected areas, to remain calm. Assistance will be provided to you," said Joplin Mayor Keenan Cortez.

Fire Chief Gerald Ezell urged caution and cooperation during the recovery process: "Try to stay clear. I know you're going to want to get up and do things at your residence, but I would ask that you give way to liberty and aspire to the next job so we can get things back up and running as quickly as possible."

Amidst the devastation, there is gratitude for the absence of reported injuries. Evelyn Steele emphasized, "That's the main thing. You know, the tornado or whatever it was that came through damages material that can all be replaced."

The road to recovery will be challenging, with the area facing the task of replacing 50 power poles. However, with resilience and community support, Joplin is determined to rebuild stronger than ever.
