The secret to success at two-decade-old Howell Western Wear
HOWELL — Lynn Elberson's faith drove her to open Howell Western Wear in 2006. Two decades later, that same faith has helped guide her toward continued success in downtown Howell. Elberson opened her store at 121 N. Michigan Ave. (Suite A) during the Howell Melon Festival of 2006. She was driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for horses. “God calls us to do certain things, but sometimes when we start our lives, we don’t do that," Elberson told The Daily. "We (go) along the path of what just happens to us, and I always knew there was another path for me." Howell Western Wear carries boots, hats, clothing, belts and other items for men, women and children. The store's featured brands include Anderson Bean, Tecovas, Ariat, Wrangler and Thorogood. Over the years, the shop has expanded into neighboring storefronts and renovated the building's basement to include even more retail. Customers can benefit from custom boot fittings and two hat bars with master hat shapers. It hasn't always been easy, weathering the Great Recession and COVID-19, according to Elberson. “You get stronger and you find ways and you get better,” she said. “I think the difficult times make us better

"Livingston In Photos," a series shot by reporter Makayla Coffee, highlights the extra-ordinary happenings of your neighbors. HOWELL — Grounds and Greens is determined to become the new go-to spot for golfers and coffee drinkers in Livingston County. For this week's Livingston in Photos, I visited the business after a soft opening Oct. 7 at 120 W. Highland Road (Suite 100) in Howell's Crossroads Town Center. Grounds and Greens is operated by Justin Czarnowski and Ali Abdallah, the latter of which owns the adjacent Howling Howell's Smoke Shop. The business is separated indoors, with golfing simulators on the left and coffee on the right. More: Golf simulators, coffee coming to former LACASA Collection in Howell Customers will find a menu full of espresso and drip coffee options, along with Abdallah's family chai recipe from Yemen, according to Czarnowski. There are also blended drink options, including the shop's popular Extreme Toffee Coffee. "We wanted to supply something that's good and we're also trying to be cost-conscious for people, too," Czarnowski told The Daily.
