Warriors finish season with Final Four appearance
Lawrence Academy found out just how cruel the postseason can be on Friday night. The Warriors saw a strong season come to an end, falling 3-0 in straight sets to a dominant Statesville Christian team. The loss eliminates the Warriors from the state playoffs and concludes their campaign. While it is a tough exit, it caps off a highly competitive year for the program. Lawrence Academy fought to keep points alive, but ran into a buzzsaw. Statesville Christian, now riding an 11-game winning streak, relied heavily on its veteran stars. Senior setter Jenna Simon kept the Warriors’ defense guessing with 27 assists and four aces, while senior Addison Layne took care of the net with 17 kills. Statesville Christian advances to play Halifax Academy on Saturday morning and won the N.C. Independent School Athletic Association championship. The match ended the prep volleyball careers of senior Maggie Price, Jaslene Etheridge, Carolina Halstead, Chloe Ferebee and Clair Ferebee. Lawrence finished the season 16-11 overall.
