Expungement fair today at Michigan Works! in Jackson

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Need help with getting your record clean?

April is Second Chances Month , and there’s an expungement fair going on in Jackson this Friday, April 19.

From 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday, attorneys are on site at Michigan Works! Southeast, giving free legal advice.

People are welcome to walk in, though officials are strongly recommending pre-registration .

Clean Slate legislation in Michigan can provide a second chance to people with certain convictions on their records, though cost can sometimes be a barrier.

“Those who have their conviction set aside have very low recidivism rates and can greatly increase their wages, making stronger and safer communities,” said Michigan Works! officials.

The organization is encouraging people with convictions to take advantage of Friday’s free opportunity.

Michigan Works! Southeast is at 209 E. Washington Avenue in Jackson.
