ITASCA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A game played each spring by high school seniors across the country has local police concerned that someone is going to be seriously injured or worse.

They call it “senior assassins.” It’s fueled by social media.  Players use squirt guns to “assassinate” one another and try to catch opponents by surprise.

In Itasca, police said , two students were playing while driving in separate cars. One rolled over.

Nobody was seriously injured.

In Gurnee, police issued a warning on Facebook.

It said a group of students playing the game walked into a restaurant wearing ski masks and carrying squirt guns that resembled the real thing. They were targeting other students at a table.

According to police, an armed man, a concealed carry holder, initially mistook the situation for a genuine threat.

They say it could have escalated quickly.
