Colorado vs. Iowa: Predictions, picks, odds for 2024 March Madness Sweet 16 game

Sweet 16 games begin this weekend in both tournaments, and the women's bracket will feature a rematch of a last-16 clash from last year.

The No. 5 Colorado Buffaloes will take on the No. 1 Iowa Hawkeyes in the Sweet 16 for a second straight year after the two teams faced off in the round last March. Iowa, then a No. 2 seed, defeated Colorado, then a No. 6 seed, during its run to the national championship game.

Colorado is off to an excellent start in this year's tournament. The Buffaloes beat No. 12 Drake , 86-72, in the first round on Friday and took down No. 4 Kansas State in a 63-50 upset on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes had to survive an upset attempt of their own from No. 8 West Virginia in the second round. The Mountaineers cut Iowa's lead to 0 with a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter before the Hawkeyes converted a 3-point play and hit nine free throws to close out the game. West Virginia held Iowa to their lowest points total of the season in the 64-54 loss. Caitlin Clark scored half (32) of the Hawkeyes' points.

Chantel Jennings writes, "Given how much Iowa struggled with West Virginia’s physical pressuring defense, it’s fair to expect Colorado to come out with a similar attack... Outside of [Caitlin] Clark, the Hawkeyes shot 0 of 17 on 3-pointers against the Mountaineers, but don’t expect that cold spell to last too long. Colorado has its own 3-point shooting weapons in Frida Formann and Maddie Nolan (who are both 42-plus percent long-range shooters), but that might not be enough against a Hawkeyes arsenal eager to prove they’re much better than their last outing."
