St. Johns County Snail of Approval awards highlight local food growers
St. Johns County will host a Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval presentation Nov. 17 from 2 to 3 p.m. at The Floridian at 485 Old Beach Road in St. Augustine. The Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval program identifies farmers who can provide seasonal crops for Northeast Florida businesses. Hosted by St. Johns County, The Floridian and the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau, the free presentation will connect chefs and restaurant and businesses owners with area farmers who supply seasonal fruits and vegetables. Prissy Fletcher, the county’s agricultural liaison, described the event as an opportunity to strengthen the area’s food economy while better understanding the seasonal availability of local crops. Attendees will also learn about the Snail of Approval, an honor awarded to local farmers, purveyors, restaurateurs and artisans. Those who receive the coveted title must source locally and sustainably, provide a positive environmental impact, hold inclusive business values, remain actively involved in the community and support staff and cultural diversity in food. Local producers, purveyors, restaurateurs and artisans who receive this honor are also listed on the National Snail of Approval Map . What is Slow Food First Coast? Established
