Planning Begins for Wayzata High School Expansion
Wayzata High School, currently the largest high school in Minnesota, is preparing for another major expansion. The Plymouth City Council recently met to review proposed plans for the high school campus. The expansion project includes new classroom and lab spaces, an eight-lane swimming pool, and additional tennis courts to support the school’s growing student body.

Medina Police reports, Oct. 19-25
These incidents were included in the Medina Police Department’s Oct. 19-25 reports. Tuesday, Oct. 20 - Police responded to the 300 block of Clydesdale Trail for a repeat shoplifter. Wednesday, Oct. 21 - Police responded to the 4400 block of Bindle Drive for an illegal dumping complaint. The reporting party said someone had dumped cardboard boxes and two lawn mowers in their dumpster. Police contacted the mailing address on the boxes, and the person said they didn’t know why boxes with their address ended up in the dumpster. They said they would pick up the lawn mowers to try to sell them. - Police returned a found phone to the owner at the intersection of Medina Street and the Railroad Tracks. Saturday, Oct. 24 - Police arrested someone for DWI and fleeing police at the 4400 block of Maple Street. - Police mailed a citation to an animal owner after an excessive barking complaint at the 2100 block of Chestnut Road.

Watershed district outlines Long Lake plans to Orono council
Restoring Long Lake was a main topic of discussion at the Orono City Council meeting on Monday night. A lengthy presentation came from James Wisker, administrator for the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. Detailed plans are in place, but funding the project is the next step. Councilmember Alissa Benson affirmed strong support for the MCWD’s plan and mission, noting she was the lone council member seated the last time the district made a presentation. Benson, who is not running for reelection, requested that Jacqueline Ricks become a designated liaison from the Council to the MCWD. Wisker detailed a plan that would cost around $4.5 million to restore Long Lake, which required regional treatment (capture phosphorus early before it gets into streams and lakes); landscape projects (wetlands and ravine stabilization); treating upstream shallow lakes; and in-lake load management. Wisker noted the positive working relationship MCWD has had with Orono and the surrounding communities. The MCWD covers 179 square miles, 29 communities, two counties, 129 lakes and eight major streams. Orono itself includes 40 miles of shoreline around Lake Minnetonka. Wisker said the MCWD is in the process of writing its next 10-year plan and is hoping for “another 10 years of working

Clearwater Man Faces Charges After Alleged Pursuit and DWI
Kyle Daniel Winter, 41, of Clearwater faces a felony charge of fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, two gross misdemeanor DWI counts, and misdemeanor charges of fleeing on foot and obstructing legal process. The complaint was filed October 30, according to MN CRIME’s report on the complaint. A Wright County Sheriff’s Office arrest report separately lists Winter’s October 30 arrest in Clearwater on charges of second-degree DWI, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, and obstructing legal process.
