HYATTSVILLE, Md. ( DC New Now ) — It’s been a year since Alex Lynch was fatally shot outside the Area Code Nightclub and his family is still seeking justice.

A little over a year ago in March 2023, Lynch was fatally shot in front of the building while working security. According to the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD), three men pulled in front of the club and opened fire around 12:40 a.m.

Since the shooting there’s been no leads, arrest or suspects in the case, and Aaron Watkins, Lynch’s older brother, is still grieving him.

“[Lynch was] family oriented. A father of one.” Watkins said.

Lynch left behind a 7-year-old son.

“My nephew really misses his father” Watkins said. “He was a life of the party moment when he was around, kept everyone laughing and giggling.”

Watkins and the rest of the family said they have been through a tough year, but they are determined to find justice for Lynch.

“This case is not cold,” PGPD Lt. Shane Goudreau said. “Our investigators have worked very hard on this case.”

Lynch’s family wants to gain closure from this tragic incident.

“What could happen for you to kill someone? I mean what was so serious that you would do this?” Watkins said.

PGPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who has information that leads to an arrest.
