Old Cannons And Easy Riverside Trails Fill This Historic Fort In Middle Tennessee
In February 1862, a Union general named Ulysses S. Grant earned a famous nickname on a quiet bend of the Cumberland River. That nickname was Unconditional Surrender, and the spot where it happened still sits outside the small town of Dover in Middle Tennessee. Today the old earthen walls are still standing, big cannons still point at the water, and wooded trails wind past trenches dug more than 160 years ago.
