It was a rough Wednesday night and Thursday morning with multiple tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, and several locations saw significant damage. Thankfully, the threat of severe storms is now over, and the sky is beginning to clear.

With calmer weather now in place, The National Weather Service office will be conducting several storm damage surveys over the days ahead. Surveys will be conducted Thursday around the Huntsville area, the Brigadoon area in Limestone County, and the Henagar area in Jackson and DeKalb counties. It may be a few days before we receive any information on the rating of the storms, and other damage surveys may take place over the coming days. The Weather Authority will be sure to bring you the latest on storm damage surveys as the information becomes available.

    Warm & Mostly Sunny Afternoon

As many people begin to clean up damage left behind by the overnight and early morning storms, the sun will return to the area. This will help warm us up into the low to middle 80s later this afternoon. As the front continues to slowly move across our area, there will be a small chance for an isolated shower or storm this afternoon. No more severe weather is expected, but there could be some heavy rain from any shower or storm that develops later.

Overnight, there will be another chance for a few isolated showers and storms into early Friday morning. Again, severe weather is not anticipated with these storms on Friday morning.

Heading into the weekend, the forecast turns drier, with Mother’s Day weekend looking pleasant with a mix of sun and clouds and daytime highs in the 70s.
