Baseball: Sidney falls to Fairmont but is improving
FAIRBORN — Sidney’s appearance in the Reds Futures High School Showcase on Thursday didn’t go as planned, but it didn’t detract from what was been a good week. Sidney fell 11-0 to Kettering Fairmont in five innings at Wright State University’s Nischwitz Stadium. The loss broke a four-game winning streak by the Yellow Jackets, which dropped to 1-10 on April 15 after losing two games in a doubleheader at Troy.
WL-S 4th after 1st day at Wayne Invitational
TROY – The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team was in fourth place Thursday after day one of the Wayne Invitational held at Troy Memorial Stadium. The Tigers had three relay teams with podium finishes including the shuttle hurdle team of Claire Longshore, Alaina Irving, Hattie Jacobs and Sophia Hardwick placing second in a school record time of 1:08.53, the 4,000 distance medley team of Ashley Yoder, Mallory Bostick, Addie McAuley and Malia Miller placing fourth (13:08.06) and the same quartet of Miller, McAuley, Yoder and Bostick teaming up for a fifth-place finish in the 4×800 relay (10:09.72).

NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen boys’ and girls’ track and field teams hosted several local schools at the Cardinal Invitational on Friday night. Among the attendees were the St. John’s Blue Jays and the Fort Jennings Musketeers, who traveled to Auglaize County for the event.

DELPHOS — St. John’s took advantage of a 9-run bottom of the third inning to grab an 11-1 Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) baseball rout Friday afternoon at Stadium Park. New Knoxville (4-10, 0-6 MAC) took the lead in the top of the opening frame against starter Grant Ulm on a 1-out walk to Luke Stachler, a run-and-hit single up the middle by Preston Rutschilling and a sacrifice fly to center from Parker Jones.
