Chiefs to wear pre-game patch Sunday inspired by American Revolution's 1st battle
No one knows who fired “The Shot Heard Round The World,” but Captain John Parker was in charge of the militia forces in Lexington, Massachusetts, on April 19, 1775. The force was ready to face the British troops who had marched from Boston to seize gunpowder the colonists had stored ahead of what was likely to be a rebellion in the colonies. “Stand your ground,” Parker is said to have told the men, per the American Battlefield Trust. “Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.” The Revolutionary War did begin that day, the first step in the birth of the United States. The British continued their march to Concord, where another skirmish broke out before the British returned to Boston. It would be a bloody trip back to the city. This is from the American Battlefield Trust: “The Lexington militia under Parker regrouped along the road, hiding behind rocks and trees, ready to ambush the British column in what is called Parker’s Revenge. The Lexington militia fired in a single group of attacks along the road that would inflict heavy casualties on the British as they retreated.” A statue of
