A Mississippi mother turned in her two teenage sons to police after they were accused of firing at officers during an attempted traffic stop. She recognized the boys, aged 17 and 18, after photos of them captured by a Ring doorbell camera were circulated by local police in Holly Springs, Mississippi. According to NBC affiliate WMC-TV, a police officer said the vehicle–traveling with no headlights on at 4.30 a.m.–was driving erratically. After refusing to stop, two shots were fired from the car. “It was dangerous for the officers and any other pedestrian and anyone that was on that interstate at that time. That was a very dangerous situation,” Holly Springs police chief Darryl Bowens said. Their faces were subsequently caught on camera and the brothers’ images released to the public. The duo were handed in approximately 24 hours later. “I’m like, ‘are you serious? Oh hell no.’ And I got up and I asked questions,” the mother told WMC-TV about her first reaction to the news. “I don’t play no games with them. If you want to do the crime you gotta do the time— plain and simple.” Despite turning her sons in, the unidentified mom said she believes in their innocence. “My child does not get in trouble. He don’t bother nobody. They don’t do nothing. All they do is play games. This is very new. This is very shocking,” she said. The brothers, who have not been identified, have been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
