Anti-war protesters at IU disrupt Bloomington campus tours
After continued protests from anti-war protesters, Indiana University is adjusting tours of its Bloomington campus. On May 29, the Office of Admissions announced a decision to temporarily pause Discover IU tours in an email by Senior Assistant Director Rafael Cronin. In the email, Cronin wrote protesters had yelled over tour guides and walked beside tour groups mostly made up of prospective students and families.

Taylor Lee named 2024 Mitchell High School Salutatorian
MITCHELL— On May 17th, Mitchell High School held its graduation ceremony, and Taylor Lee was named Salutatorian. Taylor is very outgoing and social and was on the Mitchell volleyball team and basketball team, as well as a peer leader, a member of the National Honors Society, an IHSSA student representative, and a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD.) She graduated with a 4.3 GPA. Taylor shared, “For all four years, I was first in the class, and that was my end goal. I always wanted to be the best I could. It ended up coming down to the last days of finals, and in the end, I got beat out. Even though it wasn’t the goal I had in mind it was still an amazing accomplishment and something I had to work very hard to reach.” Taylor also received the Lilly Endowment scholarship for 2024, which will pay her college tuition for the next four years. Taylor plans to attend IU Indy for a bachelor’s degree in Financing or Accounting from the Kelly School of Business. After that, she plans to attend law school to become a Prosecutor.

Byard ready to represent Athenians at state finals
When Crawfordsville junior Na’arah Byard competes at the IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals on Friday, there will be plenty of “first sinces” being thrown around. The blazing fast junior is set to compete in the long jump on the campus of Indiana University after placing second at the Lafayette Jeff Regional with a distance of 17 ft 9 in. Byard’s appearance at the state finals is the first for a Montgomery County male or female runner since Southmont’s Trent Jones in 2021. For Cville it’s the first runner they’ve had at the state finals since James Caraher in 2010 and first female runner since Johnetta Hammond in 2006.
