Advanced tickets, wristbands available for 44th annual Hiawatha Music Festival
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) -The 44th Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival is less than two months away. The event will be July 19-21 at Tourist Park in Marquette. The family-friendly festival will feature music from genres like bluegrass, jazz, and blues. Advanced ticket sales for wristbands, parking passes, and camping tags are already available online now.
A dry day before another bout of rain & thunderstorms
We are catching a break from an active pattern. Plan on a breezy and sunny day! Our next system is developing in the Northern Plains. It will bring showers into the Western U.P. starting tomorrow midafternoon. This will slowly spread east during the evening with pockets of heavy downpours. The rain clears by Saturday morning. According to emergency physicians in the U.P. holiday weekends often come with an influx of patients to their waiting rooms, especially in the summer. Marshfield Medical Center Dickinson Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner Brandon Rogers said they typically see a lot of ailments related to alcohol.
Marquette athletes sign to compete at the college level
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) – Four graduating athletes from Marquette Senior High School signed on to continue playing their respective sports at the collegiate level on Wednesday afternoon. The Sentinels’ 2023-24 Varsity Girl’s Basketball team captain Kyley Elmblad will continue playing basketball for the Ripon College Red Hawks.
South Shore Family Practice attempts to address need for female-oriented medical care
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A family practice in Downtown Marquette is expanding its team to meet the needs of more female patients. While South Shore Family Practice in Marquette offers a range of services for children, men and women, it is looking to increase its patients’ access to female-oriented medical care. Owner Dr. Annie Reinertsen said there’s been a decrease in women’s medical care in Marquette.
Students from the U.P. offered reduced-cost mental health nurse program under new federal grant
In the U.P., it’s hard to get an appointment with one of the area’s few mental health providers. A new federal grant will help to change that. To adequately serve the full population of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, it’s estimated that the area would need at least 75 full-time equivalent psychiatrists.

Marquette Hope United Methodist Church hosts talent show fundraiser
