MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - Marquette Alternative High School students got the opportunity to learn about writing from a New York Times bestselling author on Wednesday. Karen Dionne is the author of the bestselling, Upper Peninsula based, novels “The Marsh King’s Daughter” and “The Wicked Sister.”
Feeding America to host 2 food distribution events in the UP Wednesday
UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. (WLUC) - Feeding America West Michigan is scheduled to hold food distribution events in Delta and Marquette counties throughout the day on Wednesday. The first mobile food pantry is at the Salvation Army, at 3001 5th Avenue S. in Escanaba. Distribution gets underway at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time.
Jeffrey’s Restaurant expected to reopen this summer
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Jeffrey’s Restaurant is still undergoing renovations after a fire in October. The restaurant’s owner, Jeffrey Erickson, says crews had to remove everything from the building and have been hard at work getting the electrical and plumbing up to code. He says after an inspection on Wednesday they can install the floor and walls, then start getting the restaurant put back together.
"Hard to Pronounce, Easy to Love Tour" stopping in Marquette
A Midwest music tour will stop in Marquette this week, featuring the folk-influenced music of Sadie Gustafson-Zook and Brittany Ann Tranbaugh. The Crib on 401 North Third Street will host the musicians (along with Marquette's Raymond Little) for an evening of music. Sadie recently released a new album, "Where I Wanna Be," while Brittany is celebrating the release of a new single, titled "Bushwick." Both artists shine at songwriting and guitar playing, utilizing past experiences to flesh out their perspectives on life.

No injuries reported in Chocolay Township house fire
CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - No injuries were reported in a house fire that began around 10:00 a.m. Monday morning in Chocolay Township. A TV6 Reporter who was on scene said smoke was visible coming from the roof, vents, and chimney at the house, located at 257 Silver Creek Road. She said firefighters accessed the fire from the roof.
Uncle Chuck’s Funny Farms opens greenhouse in Marquette Township
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - A Gwinn family farm is making it easier for Marquette residents to get fresh produce. Uncle Chuck’s Funny Farms opened a new greenhouse outside the Westwood Mall. This week is the greenhouse’s soft open. It’s primarily selling flowers, garden amendments, and vegetable starts until this weekend when the produce like tomatoes and peppers arrives.
