Montana Ballet Company to bring haunting fall show to stage in Bozeman
BOZEMAN, Mont. — Montana Ballet Company is in rehearsals for its fall performance in Bozeman, with shows set for Oct. 30 and 31 at the Ellen Theatre. The production, "Un/Dead and Un/Forgiven," brings together three spooky works in one performance: "Dracula," "The Raven" and Giselle. The company is framing the show as a Halloween-season performance. Melissa Bowman, executive and artistic director of Montana Ballet Company, said the program took shape around an unexpected theme. "As I was putting the program together, it was really interesting because I was looking for spooky-themed, interesting ballets. And then it all came together in this very unusual thread of tragic love," Bowman said. Bowman said the show gave Bozeman audiences a chance to see a different side of the company. "It's just different, and I hope they'll see this other side of us that we really want the the Bozeman audiences to get to know. It's very different for us, the movement quality and the types of dance," she said. Dancer Gates Northrup is taking on several major roles in the performance, including as the titular raven. "She is mean. She's almost nasty. She's taunting the poet, telling him his lover will never return,"
