Construction underway on two sounds walls along I-75 in Oakland Co. Find out where
TROY — Construction is underway on two sound walls along Interstate 75 in Troy following years of complaints from nearby residents and businesses about excessive noise. One 2,666-foot wall is being built from Wattles to Long Lake. The other wall, which will be more than 2,000 feet longer at 4,273 feet, is going up from Crooks to Coolidge. Construction started in April of this year, said Rob Morosi, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation, and will take roughly two years. It's expected to wrap up in the fall of 2027. The walls are the result of a $10 million earmark in the 2024 state budget sought by state Rep. Sharon MacDonell and Sen. Michael Webber. MacDonell said in a post on social media that she was glad to see construction underway while driving through Troy late last month. "Securing $10 million in state funding for this project in 2023 is one of my proudest accomplishments during my time as your state representative, and I’ll keep working hard to bring more resources to our community for projects like this one," she wrote in a post on Facebook. MacDonell said it took years of advocacy by many, and that Troy

Troy aquatic center to be closed summer 2027 due to infrastructure issues
Troy will not open its aquatic center for the upcoming summer season because of infrastructure issues, and city officials are evaluating its long-term future, officials said on Nov. 5. In a lengthy post on Facebook, the city said the Troy Family Aquatic Center on Civic Center Drive, just north of Troy's municipal complex, will be closed in summer 2027 "due to significant infrastructure failures that require extensive repairs." The repairs will disrupt the city's ability to operate the facility, the post reads. The aquatic center in summer 2026 experienced "unsustainable" water loss due to multiple failures throughout the facility's aging underground systems. Minimum repairs to this system are estimated at $1 million, according to city officials. “Because repairs can only be done in the summer, the pool will be closed for the 2027 season," said City Manager Frank Nastasi in the post on Facebook. "We will keep evaluating its long-term future, and we hope community partnerships can be part of the solution.” The Troy Family Aquatic Center opened in 1992 and marked its 30th anniversary in 2022. It has a lagoon area, two water slides, and a dedicated toddler and youth area featuring a shallow pool, a 20-foot waterfall, a

Birmingham's Triangle District Set for 224-Unit Tower at Woodward and Maple
A vacant lot at the southeast corner of Woodward Avenue and Maple Road in Birmingham could soon hold one of the city's largest residential projects yet: a 224-unit building with 197 apartments and 27 condominiums for sale, rising nine stories above two levels of underground parking. The proposal, advanced by developer Beztak working alongside architect Victor Saroki, has been steadily working through the city's approval process for years and recently cleared two more milestones.
