Why NBC's TODAY show was in this tiny Eastern KY town to ‘tell America's story.'

A crew from NBC’s TODAY show on Friday was at Tomahawk in Martin County to document the “area’s rich musical heritage, strong community spirit, and commitment to cultural learning,” said James Leon Webb, President and Board Chairman of Stidham Old Time Music Association. “Their visit to the Stidham Old Time Music Association and James Webb Musical Repair and Sales will highlight the value of preserving old-time music traditions, enjoying hands-on musical fun, and attending a community jam at the music shop.” Webb said the show also would visit Martin County High School to feature the Pick and Bow after-school program. Entertainment Weekly reported in September that Harry Smith, 75, was set to host a new on-air segment called “Common Good” that will feature stories across “TODAY,” “NBC Nightly News,” and live events that air on NBC News. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to do what I have done for so long: tell America’s story,” Smith told People in a statement. “I have long believed that there is more that unites us than divides us. It’s in our bones. It’s part of America’s DNA.” The air date wasn’t immediately available Friday morning, and representatives from TODAY didn’t immediately provide
