17-year-old boy arrested after standoff in north Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS — A Hennepin County deputy saw a person fire a gun in north Minneapolis on Friday morning, leading to a standoff outside a residence that was resolved when a teenager was arrested.The sheriff's office says the deputy saw the boy fire a gun and run into a home on the 1500 block of Olive Avenue North. Law enforcement officers secured the perimeter and WCCO crews at the scene observed a heavy law enforcement presence, including SWAT vehicles, outside a residence.A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody without incident, the sheriff's office said. He was booked into a juvenile detention center for reckless discharge and weapons violations. No one was injured, the sheriff's office said.
Elk River police ask public to avoid scene of "ongoing investigation" involving BCA
ELK RIVER, Minn. — Local and state authorities are at the scene of an "ongoing investigation" in Elk River Thursday, police said, and they're asking the public to avoid the area.The investigation is focused on the 19000 block of Lowell Street, according to the Elk River Police Department. Police gave no details about the investigation, but said there is no threat to public safety.The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the police department, but also did not provide further details.Elk River is about 30 miles northwest of Minneapolis.This is a developing story. MINNEAPOLIS — Investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department are investigating after a man was fatally shot in the city Friday morning. Officers from the department responded to the 2200 block of 5th Ave North for a report of a shooting shortly before 5 a.m., according to a release from the department.

Murder trial set for September for Minnesota trooper who shot motorist during freeway stop
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota state trooper who’s charged with murder for fatally shooting a motorist as he tried to pull away from a traffic stop is set to go on trial in September. Trooper Ryan Londregan, 27, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in the death of Ricky Cobb II. It was the first hearing in the case for a new prosecution team from a Washington, D.C., law firm that Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty hired to take over after the original leader from her office stepped away from the politically charged case. “I plead innocent your honor,” Londregan told Judge Tamara Garcia. Garcia scheduled the trial to start Sept. 9, with one week blocked out for jury selection and two weeks for testimony. The next hearing is set for Aug. 12 to iron out rules for the trial. The charges include second-degree murder, manslaughter and assault.
Man wounded in Minneapolis shootout that killed firefighter charged with riot
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A second man is criminally charged for a Minneapolis shootout that took the life of an Eagan and Eden Prairie firefighter earlier this month. Dallas Antonio Villarreal-Griffin, 27, of Columbia Heights, is charged with second-degree riot after investigators say he was shot in the leg during the exchange of gunfire. He was arrested Friday, May 17, and admitted to firing a "ghost gun" at an opposing group during the shootout, according to a criminal complaint.
