What factors in Massachusetts contribute to the increase in allergies

Hadley is known as “the asparagus capital of the world,” with many farmers producing the vegetable this spring. It has become a staple crop in Hadley due to its climate and soils and because it can be found everywhere at once its nickname became “Hadley grass.”

Asparagus typically produces in June however, on May 1st, Dave’s Natural Garden picked asparagus and said, “It’s basically a holiday here”. Atkins Farms is carrying Hadley asparagus for $6 a bunch, according to their Facebook post last Friday.

The annual Asparagus Festival presented by New England Public Radio is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Hadley Town Common. The event includes live music, a farmers and makers market, a beers and spears tent featuring local beers, and all the asparagus you can eat.
