Kindergarden Zoo at Center Grove Elementary School
RANDOLPH, NJ- Center Grove Elementary students put both their creativity and research skills to use in this year’s Kindergarten Zoo. The students were tasked with bringing their classroom to life as a fully functioning zoo with several different kinds of animal species. Over several weeks, the students met with their “reading buddies” to collect information about different animals. This information was compiled in a graphic organizer and students utilized their research to design what their animal and its habitat could look like using recycled materials. The students then wrote about their experiences and gave presentations to classrooms from other grade levels throughout the school day. Students who visited the spaces asked the Kindergarten students questions about what their animals ate, where they lived, and other facts about them in their zoo. The habitats and animals turned out to be incredibly realistic, which was one of the many assigned goals created by the Kindergarten leadership team for the students. Thank you to teachers Brittany Scism, Erica Rossman, Jenna Galuska, and Abigail Frech for organizing this amazing authentic learning opportunity for our students.
