The driver of a pickup truck who died in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer in Jackson Township near Grover City has been identified by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Clyde Mitchell Evans, 57, of Columbus, was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound on Route 104 about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2024 Kenworth tractor-trailer that was traveling north, according to an accident report from the county Sheriff’s Office.

The Kenworth went off the west side of the two-lane roadway and came to a stop, while the Ford ended up across both lanes of travel.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson Township medics. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, the sheriff's office said.

Route 104 remained closed at the site of the collision for several hours until about 2:30 p.m. while deputies investigated the crash, the sheriff's office said.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information can contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit at 614-525-6113.
