A Fresh Perspective Comes Upriver to Knoxville in Eric Myers
Knoxville has long had a fascination with Chattanooga. We’re both Tennessee River cities, and for decades we’ve watched with interest as our neighbor to the south reimagined its downtown and riverfront. We marveled at Chattanooga’s aquarium, pedestrian bridge, revitalized downtown and ambitious public spaces. We spent years fumbling...

Hundreds have moved into Belltown homes. Apartments and townhomes are next | Exclusive
Belltown has welcomed 275 families since construction began in 2023 , with nearly 300 homes built across the 305-acre mixed-use community between Karns and Powell. More than half of the 561 single-family homes planned for the development have been sold or are under construction, Belltown developer Josh Sanderson told Knox News, and prospective buyers have been put on a waitlist. Other forms of housing also are in the works. A 335-unit apartment complex is in the planning stages, and construction began this month on 185 townhomes geared toward people ages 55 and older. The townhome project is scheduled to wrap up in 2027, Sanderson said, and crews will soon begin building the next phase of single-family homes to be completed next winter. In total, 4,000 residents are expected to live in Belltown once the community is complete. Smithbilt Homes, the development company behind Belltown, has widened West Emory Road and added a traffic signal at the entrance to help address traffic concerns tied to the projected population increase. Private amenities for residents are finished, Sanderson said, including a pool, playground and clubhouse-style meeting area. Belltown plans to add a public park, which will have a playground, dog park, kayak area,
The Rogersville Review
Looking Pretty for Our Most Special Occasion
Rogersville looks pretty every day. So much here is visually pleasing, specific to seasons and to times of day. But quickly approaching are the days in which our town should look its very most appealing, the days in which Rogersville entertains more guests than any other time of year. Heritage Days has lasted almost five decades, an amazing feat for an event that has no paid staff and is put on by volunteers, wisely scheduled at a time of great beauty here in this little bowl set down between surrounding mountain ridges. In my personal opinion, living in Rogersville’s National Register Historic District is both a privilege and a responsibility because its houses belong to history as much as to the families whose names are on the deeds. Driving through town, I see several owners already have placed heritage candles in their windows in anticipation of the upcoming event. What are heritage candles? Well, they’re those single window candles of the tradition begun decades ago by the Heritage Association to emphasize the beauty of our National Register Historic District. They add such charm and warmth to a residence that they are used all over town now, and beautifully so. Hopefully,

865 Neyland hotel to have members-only club, steakhouse with stadium views
The condo-hotel rising next to Neyland Stadium will feature an exclusive level where guests can watch Tennessee football from above while cutting into an Italian steak. The condo-hotel represents the final stage of the $288 million 865 Neyland project , a multi-purpose entertainment district starting construction soon. Tennessee athletics director Danny White shared a big update about the project Oct. 2 during Chancellor Donde Plowman's Advisory Board meeting, including a breakdown of the units: 186 hotel rooms, 51 luxury residences and 30 condo/hotel units. The open-air terrace shown in renderings will be a private club level, White said, and it will require a membership. The club area will include a "high-end Italian steakhouse," White said. His presentation noted the club level will feature "ticketed viewing of football games." The 24-story building , which will also have a rooftop bar, will be the "first customized hotel with a stadium experience orientation" in college sports, according to the presentation. It also will be tied with the Riverview Tower downtown as the second-tallest building in Knoxville, though it won't be considered a skyscraper . The city's tallest building is First Horizon Plaza at 27 stories. Along with the condo-hotel, 865 Neyland will feature
