Grayson surges into playoffs with blowout win over Rockdale
LOGANVILLE — With a postseason home game next week all but clinched, first-year Grayson head football coach Greg Carswell didn’t want to see a misstep against Rockdale County on Friday. Other than allowing its first touchdown since Oct. 16, No. 12 Grayson (6-4, 3-1 Region 4-AAAAAAA) was pretty much perfect in a 52-10 win. Senior quarterback Deuce Smith threw for a pair of touchdowns and rushed for another and Ashton Turner ran in two touchdowns for the Rams, who have won their last two games by a combined score of 104-10 since a loss to Newton. “I just liked how we stayed consistent even through trouble,” said Carswell, whose team scored the game’s last 38 points. “We're going to see some trouble and we're going to see adversity in the playoffs. Watching our team stay poised in moments that we're not playing our best, not executing our best, but still believing in what we're doing and being able to come out of bad situations and make positive stuff out of them is big. I was proud of that tonight.” Deontae Burtts threw a touchdown for No. 38 Rockdale (3-7, 0-4), which saw its season come to an end Friday. Smith

Grove Park's Historic 1941 Theater Breaks Ground on $5.4M Revival
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and other city officials stood in the pouring rain on Wednesday to mark the ceremonial groundbreaking for the restoration of the Grove Theatre, a long-shuttered movie house on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway that has sat vacant for decades in the Grove Park neighborhood. The Grove Park Foundation has begun restoring the theater after acquiring it in 2017, when the building had already fallen into disrepair.
