A 20-year-old serial stabber was indicted by a grand jury on charges related to a fatal attack of a homeless man in Gresham late last year.

Antony Kassab faces second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly fatally stabbing Cody Funk, 35. Kassab is also being charged with the stabbing assault of another victim on Feb. 9.

An investigation began the morning of December 26 when Gresham Police were notified of an unresponsive person near the intersection of Southeast 190th Avenue and Southeast Division Street. The victim, Funk, had been experiencing homelessness at the time of his murder.

An autopsy indicated he died from multiple stab wounds. Gresham Police investigators and East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team began collecting evidence that eventually led to Kassab.

The grand jury returned its indictment on Friday, April 12.

Upon connecting Kassab to the murder of Funk, police found he was already in custody for the stabbing of David McQuown. For that incident, he faces a charge for attempted murder. McQuown was also experiencing homelessness at the time of the attack.

“This suspect targeted particularly vulnerable members of the community, his behavior has no place in Gresham,” said Police Chief Travis Gullberg. “Our detectives worked tirelessly to seek justice for Mr. Funk and Mr. McQuown.”
