Area athletes win regional Junior Olympics titles
Four South Coast athletes won titles in the recent Junior Olympics Northwest Regional track and field championships in Gresham. Mason Detzler of Myrtle Point, competing unattached, won the men’s (17-18 years old) discus with a throw of 167-11 and shot put with an effort of 57-9. Marley Petrey of Bandon, also unattached and competing in the same age group, won the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute and 4.74 seconds. ...

Pilots Well-Represented at 2024 Summer Olympics
PARIS – University of Portland Athletics will be well-represented at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, with seven former student-athletes representing their countries. Portland Pilots Track and Cross Country has plenty of competitors on both the men's and women's side, with six runners competing over the few weeks. On the men's side, Woody Kincaid (United States), Michael Somers (Belgium) and Cathal Doyle (Ireland) will be the UP alums represented. Kincaid will run in the 10,000-meter, Somers will run in the marathon and Doyle will compete in the 1,500-meter. This is the first time Somers and Doyle are competing and the second time for Kincaid.
