Reader Photos: Osprey family welcomes new member
Thanks to a live video feed of an osprey nest in Grand Lake, people from all over the country can tune in to watch the osprey mother and father tend to their new eggs. Grand County resident J Frank Mannix, has enjoyed watching the osprey camera, which is owned and operated by Kent Roorda. On May 20, Mannix spotted that the osprey mom had laid a new egg – now she has a total of three eggs.
Grand Lake to host annual Memorial Day Parade
The annual Memorial Day Parade in Grand Lake honors those who have served, and even more so this year, as it will start at Veterans Memorial Park for the first time. The town renamed Triangle Park to Veterans Memorial last year when the American Legion dedicated a monument and flagpole.

Artwork by four local students to be featured on new signs around town
This summer, keep your eyes out for four new signs around town that were created by local students to celebrate the beauty of Estes Park, its wildlife, plants and landscape. The Estes Park Middle School Environmental Resilience Team partnered with the Estes Valley Watershed Coalition this school year to create an art and writing contest for local K-12 students.The club is an extracurricular club composed of middle school students whose mission is to promote awareness and take civic action involving the community and our environment. The contest encouraged students to choose local flora, fauna, or landmarks to illustrate and write about. Four submissions won and were turned into signs, which are intended to be installed at Mrs. Walsh’s Garden, Fisherman’s Nook, Wapiti Park and near the walking trail split area by the golf course/visitor’s center parking garage. The student creators are Lincoln V. (age 6, homeschool student), Dylan R. (Estes Park Middle School), Laurel W. (Estes Park High School) and Isabella P. (Estes Park High School).
Local officials and community members discuss the future of Grand County’s animal shelter
Community member Nancy Gold moved to Grand County about 30 years ago, partly because of the nonprofit organization Pet Pals, which supports the local animal shelter. During the May 2 Grand County commissioners meeting, she stated that she was mortified to learn that there may not be an animal shelter in Grand County. The shelter’s future is unknown because the lease for their building expires December 2025.

Denver men lead law enforcement on car chase in Grand County
Grand County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a pursuit of a stolen vehicle Sunday around 3:30 p.m. after it failed to yield for a traffic stop, according to a probable cause affidavit. Dispatch aired a citizen report of a reckless driver going eastbound on U.S. Highway 40 near mile post 219, and a deputy spotted the vehicle shortly after.
Boulder County adds vacation bank for new employees
Boulder County is changing its vacation policy to give new employees a bank of days to take off instead of having to accrue hours. Director of Human Resources Julia Larsen explained to county commissioners on Tuesday that the change was due to the significant challenges the county is facing in recruiting and retaining employees. Previously, new employees had to accrue vacation time at a rate of eight hours per month.
Truck involved in deadly hit-and-run found; no arrests made
DENVER — Colorado State Patrol has the truck involved in a deadly hit-and-run in Boulder County last week, but nobody has been arrested as of Tuesday. The crash, which involved four vehicles, happened around 5 p.m. Friday on Highway 287 in Boulder County just south of the Larimer County line.
Granby man arrested with fentanyl sentenced to 6 years for intent to distribute
Granby Police pulled over Tyler Hindi, 38, of Granby, for speeding on Agate Avenue and having expired tags July 4, 2022. During the traffic stop, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office and their K-9 unit Milo assisted, and Milo had a positive alert for drugs in Hindi’s vehicle, according to an arrest affidavit.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. on May 23, 2023, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office was notified of an incident in the 200 block of Chute Road in unincorporated Boulder County.
