New agreement will boost flow of water in Grand County
Grand County and Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (Northern Water) have agreed to a unique and first-of-its-kind operational framework that provides Grand County with the ability to have as much as 7,000 acre-feet of additional controllable water to release from the Colorado-Big Thompson (C-BT) Project for stream enhancement and other purposes that will benefit Grand County’s recreation and agriculture industries. The volume available for streamflow improvement will be dependent on annual river conditions and C-BT Project storage levels.

On April 6, Octavio Ruiz Muñoz Jr. of Granby lost his life after a car accident. The 11-year-old was in the car with his family when it went off the road in Clear Creek County. He went by the nickname Junior and was a sixth grader at East Grand Middle School. Junior was “was known for being happy; he always had a smile on his face,” his family wrote in his obituary.
28 percent increase in summer camping fees proposed for some RMNP campgrounds
A proposal is underway at Rocky Mountain National Park that would increase the cost of summer camping by 28.5 percent at some of the destination's most popular campgrounds. Under the proposal, which would roll out in 2025, summer overnight fees at campgrounds of Moraine Park, Glacier Basin, Aspenglen, and Timber Creek would increase from $35 to $45 per night. Granby board pass 1,000th ordinance that establishes emergency snow route
The Granby Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, April 9 at Granby Town Hall. It was a full house as almost every seat in the room was taken by Grand County residents. Most of them attended the meeting to discover the fate of the West Service Area’s water rates. Many of the attendees were residents of Smith Creek Crossing or Sun Outdoors themselves.
Crews clear road after rockslide in Byers Canyon
On the evening of April 15, several large boulders fell down from Byers Canyon near Hot Sulphur Springs and landed on U.S. Highway 40. “Thankfully, no one was hurt and the rocks and debris were able to be removed quickly with only a brief highway closure,” the Grand County Sheriff’s Office stated. “This is a good reminder to stay watchful and alert to your surroundings.”
