MSP Airport finds lack of interest in commercial spaces

Restaurant operators and retailers balked at the high asking rents and long lease terms that MSP Airport wanted as part of a large search for new tenants. Why it matters: MSP's reputation as the top U.S. airport is based partly on its dining and shopping options . The lack of vendor interest shows that it may be asking too much from businesses seeking access to the airport's 36 million annual travelers. State of play: The airport has been working on a major overhaul of its commercial spaces this year. Staff informed the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) that it found vendors for less than half of the available space. By the numbers: In May, the MAC issued a request for proposals for about 40% of the restaurant and retail spaces in both terminals — 80,000 square feet in total. All of those spaces were bundled into 10 batches. Nobody responded to four of the batches and staff chose not to award deals to a group that was the only respondent on two others. Isaac Asuma scored 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, and Minnesota secured a 76-62 win over St. Thomas on Friday night in Minneapolis. Jaylen Crocker-Johnson added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Gophers (2-0). Nolan Groves scored 15 points off the bench. Jeremy Lorenz scored 13 points to lead St. Thomas (1-1). Hayden Tibbits finished with 12, and Carter Bjerke tallied nine on three 3-pointers. The Tommies went on a 9-0 run to pull within 55-48 with 10:41 remaining. Caden Wilkins made a driving layup, Tibbits drained a 3-pointer and Kendall Blue capped the run with a layup. Minnesota responded with a 9-0 spurt to seize a 64-48 advantage with 9:05 remaining. Kyan Evans converted a three-point play, and Asuma made a driving layup to highlight the surge. Warmth Returns to the Plains and Midwest as Temperatures Run Up to 14 Degrees Above Normal in Bismarck and Pierre and 11 Degrees Above in Minneapolis, Omaha and Des Moines

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA — Cooler weather is in store this weekend, but warmer temperatures are expected to return to the Plains and parts of the Midwest later next week. A temperature outlook for November 11 to 16 shows a large area of above normal temperatures centered over the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Readings there run about 14 degrees above normal in Bismarck, Fargo, Pierre and Minot, and about 11 degrees above normal in Minneapolis, Omaha, Des Moines and Topeka. The warmth also reaches Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Louis, where temperatures run about 7 degrees above normal.
